An Akron man has been sentenced to 35 years in federal prison for distributing methamphetamine and cocaine, as well as illegally possessing ammunition. Antoine D. Cook, 46, received the sentence from U.S. District Judge Donald C. Nugent after a jury found him guilty in June on multiple charges.
Cook was convicted of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, and being a felon in possession of ammunition. His prior convictions include domestic violence offenses in 1996, 2010, 2012, and 2014; distribution of a controlled substance in 2002; aggravated assault in 2012 and 2015; and felonious assault in 2018.
Court documents state that on May 1, 2024, Cook possessed about 25 grams of methamphetamine and three grams of cocaine, both packaged for sale. He also had more than 80 rounds of ammunition despite his status as a convicted felon. Due to his extensive criminal history involving drug and violent felony convictions, Cook received an enhanced sentence as both a career offender and an armed career criminal.
Following his release from prison, Cook will be subject to eight years of supervised release.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) led the investigation with help from the Ohio Adult Parole Authority. Assistant United States Attorney Peter E. Daly prosecuted the case for the Northern District of Ohio.
