Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost announced on Mar. 24 that his office has filed lawsuits in three counties against three home-improvement contractors and a builder of outdoor structures, alleging they defrauded consumers out of a combined $564,000.

The lawsuits claim violations of the Ohio Consumer Sales Practices Act and seek to address concerns about trust between homeowners and service providers. “Homeowners trust contractors or businesses with their hard-earned money,” Attorney General Dave Yost said. “Breaking that trust harms customers and undermines honest professionals.”

One lawsuit targets Anthony Ryan, owner of Acme Restoration, who is accused of taking large upfront deposits for home-improvement services but failing to complete the promised work. The complaint states Ryan also did not properly notify consumers about their right to cancel contracts as required by law during solicitations from August to November 2024. Three consumers reported damages totaling $46,000. This is the second civil suit against Ryan; he previously operated as Ryan Roofing and Home Improvements, Ltd., and is currently serving a prison sentence related to similar offenses after being convicted in March 2025.

Another case involves KB Co. Builders owners Christopher Jordan Bazemore and Jared Kumala in central Ohio. Five consumers allege that projects were left unfinished or not started at all, resulting in approximately $240,000 in damages.

Timothy and Jessy May are named in a separate suit for operating under several business names including United Log Homes. Ten consumers filed complaints about undelivered products or incomplete work involving log homes and other small structures, with claimed losses exceeding $225,000.

A fourth lawsuit accuses Michael Murnane (Atlas Exteriors) of accepting payments without performing contracted work; ten complaints cite combined damages of $53,000.

The Ohio Attorney General’s Office operates statewide through its main Columbus office as well as regional offices according to the official website. Dave Yost leads the agency according to the official website, which aims to protect residents via law enforcement efforts and consumer protection programs according to the official website. The office also provides legal advice to state agencies while enforcing regulations according to the official website.

Residents who suspect unfair or deceptive business practices are encouraged by officials to contact www.OhioProtects.org or call 800-282-0515.
