The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) has announced plans to rebuild the historic U.S. Route 40 bridge in Belmont County as part of the Blaine Hill Arches of Memory Rehabilitation Project. This project aims to enhance the structural integrity of the bridge while maintaining its historical character.
Preliminary work is set to begin the week of March 10, with ODOT crews conducting necessary environmental preparations. This includes accessing areas under and on top of the bridge for inspection and ensuring safety for equipment and personnel. The work will address deteriorating conditions by using a lift for access underneath the bridge.
In addition, tree-cutting activities will be conducted throughout March in preparation for future construction phases. The overall project involves replacing the superstructure, beams, deck, and railing of the bridge, as well as patching existing concrete piers.
Michael Baker International is responsible for designing this project, which is scheduled to be sold in April 2025. Construction is expected to start in May and conclude in 2026.
