Bowling Green State University’s baseball team is set to begin its Mid-American Conference (MAC) schedule this weekend with a three-game series against Kent State in Kent, Ohio. The games are scheduled for Friday at 3 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. Fans can check BGSUFalcons.com or the team’s Twitter/X account (@BGSU_Baseball) for updates on any changes to the schedule.
The Falcons have faced a challenging non-conference schedule so far this season, which is ranked as the toughest among MAC teams and 44th nationally. Their four non-conference opponents each won more than 30 games last year, including Georgia Tech with 41 wins, and collectively hold a 34-15 record early in the current season.
Kent State enters the series with an 8-3 record. The Golden Flashes opened their season by sweeping Southeastern Louisiana before dropping two games to highly ranked LSU and Tennessee but rebounded to win two against Tennessee for a series victory. Their only other loss came against Wright State. Kent State recently swept Rhode Island at home and is scheduled to play St. Bonaventure before facing Bowling Green.
Historically, Kent State leads the all-time series between the two programs with a record of 135-70 over 205 meetings. Last season, Bowling Green won the first game of their series before Kent State took the next two matchups at Steller Field. During their last visit to Kent State in 2024, Bowling Green secured one win out of three games, highlighted by a shutout victory on April 27. The Falcons’ most recent overall series win against Kent State was in 2014, while their last road series win came in 2004.
Bowling Green has started strong in conference play over recent years, winning its MAC opener for three consecutive seasons—defeating Ohio in both 2023 and last year and Miami (OH) in 2024. The team also swept its opening MAC series each of the past two years.
This weekend marks Bowling Green’s first full weekend series within Ohio this season; previous weekends were played out of state except for a midweek contest at Cincinnati.
Individually, Sam Seidel stands ninth all-time in program history for career stolen bases with 43 steals—one shy of tying eighth place—and holds seven steals so far this season. He averages nearly one stolen base per game and ranks among national leaders for both total steals and per-game average.
Defensively, Bowling Green has turned ten double plays through ten games this year, ranking them tied atop the MAC alongside Western Michigan and placing them among national leaders as well.
