The Bowling Green State University baseball team defeated Akron 6-2 on April 2 in the opening game of their weekend series at Steller Field. The Falcons built an early lead and maintained control throughout the game, with strong performances both on the mound and at the plate.
This win sets a positive tone for Bowling Green as they prepare to conclude the series with a doubleheader scheduled for Friday, April 3. The games will begin at 1 p.m., following a recent schedule change.
Ethan Stade led Bowling Green from the pitcher’s mound, delivering seven innings while allowing only one run on six hits and striking out ten batters. This marks his third consecutive outing with eight or more strikeouts and his second double-digit strikeout performance in five appearances this season. At bat, Anthony Mitta contributed three hits—including his second home run of the year—and drove in four runs to set new personal season highs. Sam Seidel also recorded three hits, helping to drive the offense.
The Falcons scored first in the second inning and added three more runs in the third before extending their lead further in subsequent frames. Akron managed single runs in both the sixth and eighth innings but could not close Bowling Green’s advantage.
Other notable contributions included Andrew DiLodovico extending his team-leading on-base streak to ten games, TJ Takats adding another extra-base hit, and Brayden Curlis reaching base multiple times through hits and being hit by pitches. According to statistics provided by Bowling Green State University Athletics, this marks five wins without a loss when holding opponents to two or fewer runs this season.
