The Bowling Green State University men’s basketball team secured a 77-69 win over Eastern Michigan on Friday night in Ypsilanti, closing out their regular season. The Falcons started strong with an early lead but trailed at halftime before improving their shooting and defense in the second half to clinch the victory.
Javontae Campbell led Bowling Green with 22 points and seven assists. Sam Towns contributed his fourth double-double of the season, scoring 15 points and collecting a team-high 18 rebounds. Towns’ performance marked his second consecutive game with at least 15 rebounds, a feat last achieved by a Falcon in the 2018-19 season.
Campbell’s efforts also moved him up the program’s record books. He now has 1,059 career points for Bowling Green, placing him 45th on the all-time scoring list. His seven assists brought his season total to 159, moving him into ninth place for single-season assists in school history. With three steals during the game, Campbell entered Bowling Green’s top five for career steals.
Other key contributors included Javon Ruffin, who made four three-pointers and finished with 12 points; Troy Glover II, who added 11 points and six rebounds; and Mayar Wol, who scored nine points.
With this result, Bowling Green evened its all-time road record against Eastern Michigan at 24-24 and completed its first season sweep of EMU since the 2022-23 campaign.
Coach Simon commented after the game: “In the first half, I felt like we were playing really really hard, we just left a lot of shots on the rim, we just weren’t finishing. In the second half, we just did a little bit better of a job knocking shots down and tightened up our defense and gave them some different looks. The leadership, Sam Towns and Javontae Campbell, was a huge difference as well.”
Bowling Green will next compete in the MAC Tournament beginning Thursday. Their seed will be determined based on the outcome of the Ohio-Miami game later Friday night.
