The Bowling Green State University men’s basketball team completed its preseason schedule with an exhibition game against the Dayton Flyers on Monday in Dayton, Ohio. This matchup was the Falcons’ second and final exhibition before the start of the regular season, following a previous contest against No. 22 Michigan State.
Bowling Green held a narrow lead at halftime, up 30-27, but Dayton took control in the second half to secure a 90-59 victory. Javon Ruffin led Bowling Green’s scoring with 20 points, making eight out of nine shots from the field and hitting four of five three-point attempts. Javontae Campbell contributed 10 points along with three rebounds and one steal.
“Javon Ruffin led the Falcons in scoring in the game, knocking down 20 points while shooting 8-of-9 from the field and 4-of-5 from three. The Falcons have now had a 20-point scorer in each exhibition after Sam Towns hit the mark against Michigan State,” according to information released by Bowling Green.
Campbell has now scored double digits in both preseason games for Bowling Green. “Javontae Campbell joined Ruffin in the double-digit scoring feat with 10 points while adding three rebounds and a steal for the Orange and Brown. Campbell now has reached double figures in both exhibitions.”
Justin Thomas also played an active role for Bowling Green, leading his team with four assists and three steals while adding seven points and two rebounds. “Justin Thomas was active around the ball in the game, leading the team in assists (4) as well as steals (3). Thomas added seven points and two rebounds to his stat line.”
Mayar Wol led all Falcons players with five rebounds alongside five points and one assist. In total, all fourteen players who dressed for Bowling Green saw playing time during this exhibition; nine different players scored.
The regular season will begin for Bowling Green on November 3 when they host Texas State at Stroh Center at 7 p.m., marking their first of three consecutive home games to open their campaign.
