Bowling Green State University’s men’s basketball team is set to face its long-standing rival, the University of Toledo Rockets, on Saturday at Savage Arena. The matchup marks the 185th meeting between the two programs, with Toledo holding a historical advantage of 99-85. The game will begin at 5 p.m. and can be streamed on ESPN+ or heard via radio on WFRO Eagle 99.

The contest is the first in this season’s Battle of I-75 series, which Bowling Green currently leads 26-25. Five points are at stake for the overall rivalry competition presented by Fremont Federal Credit Union. The next game between these teams is scheduled for Feb. 14, when Bowling Green will host Toledo.

Both teams enter Saturday’s contest with identical Mid-American Conference (MAC) records of 4-3, tied for fifth place in the conference standings. In their last meeting on Feb. 21, 2025, Bowling Green secured a narrow victory over Toledo after Javontae Campbell made a layup with just 1.6 seconds left on the clock for a final score of 69-68.

A win for Bowling Green would extend its current MAC winning streak to three games—the first such streak this season—and give them back-to-back wins over Toledo for the first time since the 2019-20 season. It would also mark consecutive victories at Savage Arena and bring Bowling Green closer to reaching its program milestone of 1,500 total wins.

Toledo enters Saturday’s game after two close road losses: an 87-84 defeat against Kent State and an 84-82 loss to UMass. The Rockets have a season record of 10-9 and are led by Sonny Wilson, who averages 17.4 points per game while shooting nearly fifty percent from the field.

Bowling Green has found recent success away from home, winning six out of their last seven road games—with their only loss coming against Kent State earlier this month. They are also coming off back-to-back conference wins against Eastern Michigan (85-79) and Western Michigan (72-54).

Javontae Campbell continues to make significant contributions for BGSU as he approaches career scoring milestones—he is now just over one hundred points shy of reaching two thousand career points across all levels and needs another one hundred eighty points to become BGSU’s first thousand-point scorer since Daeqwon Plowden in 2022.

Campbell is also on pace to break his own single-season steals record; he currently leads the nation with an average of 3.4 steals per game and could surpass both his school record (90) and the MAC record (103) set by Bonzi Wells in the late nineties if his performance continues.

Troy Glover II has emerged as a key player in recent games by leading or sharing rebounding honors over four consecutive contests and increasing his average rebounds per game from just above four to more than five during that span.

Defensively, Bowling Green has excelled when limiting opponents’ scoring: they remain undefeated this season when holding teams under seventy points but have struggled when allowing more than that threshold.
