The Bowling Green State University baseball team lost to Miami (OH) on March 13, dropping the first game of their weekend series by a score of 8-5 after a late comeback attempt. The game, played in Oxford, was delayed by wind before the RedHawks took an early lead and held off the Falcons’ rally in the final innings.
This matchup is significant for both teams as they continue their conference schedules and look to build momentum during the season. The Falcons’ effort to close an eight-run gap highlights their resilience despite falling short.
Miami (OH) started strong with a two-run home run in the first inning and extended their lead with five runs in the fifth. By the seventh inning, Miami led 8-0. Bowling Green responded in the eighth when Griffin Scheiderer singled and Sam Seidel walked, setting up Vinny Salvione’s three-run home run—the team’s first three-run homer of the year and Salvione’s fourth of the season. In the ninth, Andrew DiLodovico singled and Zack Horky tripled him home before scoring himself on a wild pitch, narrowing the deficit to three runs.
On the mound, Jacob Turner pitched four innings for Bowling Green, allowing two earned runs. Carrson Sova came on in relief and struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one run—a season high for Sova as a reliever.
Other notable performances included Horky’s second triple of the season—his fourth career triple—and Anthony Mitta extending his hitting streak to 11 out of his last 12 games. Salvione also extended his own hitting streak to seven games.
The series continues with games scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m., with updates available on BGSUFalcons.com and social media channels.
