Bowling Green State University’s women’s basketball team lost to UC Irvine 75-50 in the opening game of the ASRC/ConocoPhillips Great Alaska Shootout on Friday at the Alaska Airlines Center in Anchorage, Alaska.

Paige Kohler led Bowling Green with 18 points. Johnea Donahue contributed 10 points, six rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Donahue tied Lauren Gerken for the team’s lead in rebounds. Jasmine Fearne scored nine points, matching her career high by making three three-point shots.

For UC Irvine, Lauryn Madsen led with 15 points. Jada Wynn recorded a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 13 rebounds, also leading all players with six assists.

UC Irvine started strong, taking an early 12-1 lead and finishing the first quarter ahead 17-3. The Anteaters maintained control throughout the game.

The Falcons attempted to close the gap in the second quarter after Paige Kohler made two free throws and Jasmine Fearne hit a three-pointer to bring Bowling Green within nine points. However, UC Irvine responded and extended their lead before halftime.

In the third quarter, Bowling Green tried to rally after Kohler made a deep three-pointer and followed up with a layup assisted by Donahue. Despite these efforts, UC Irvine increased their advantage behind long-range shooting from Ameerah Grant and Lauryn Madsen.

The fourth quarter saw Bowling Green go on an eight-point run that included contributions from Kohler, Donahue, Laila Harrison, and Kaia Woods. Still, they were unable to significantly reduce UC Irvine’s lead.

Bowling Green will play again at the Alaska Airlines Center on Saturday night against either St. Thomas or Alaska Anchorage. Their regular-season home opener is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 30 against Purdue Fort Wayne at the Stroh Center.
