The Bowling Green State University men’s basketball program announced on April 27 the signing of transfer wing Tristan Beckford. Head coach Todd Simon said Beckford, a 6-foot-7 rising sophomore, is joining the Falcons after playing his freshman season at South Florida.

Beckford was a four-star recruit out of high school and appeared in 21 games for South Florida during his first collegiate season. He was widely regarded as the top Canadian prospect in the class of 2025. His best performance came against the College of Charleston, where he scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds over 28 minutes to earn American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week honors. For the season, Beckford totaled 55 points with a field goal percentage of 48.6 and made nearly three-quarters of his free throws.

A native of Maple, Ontario, Beckford attended Fort Erie International Academy before college. He played for Team Canada at the 2024 FIBA U18 AmeriCup and helped secure a bronze medal for his team. During that tournament, he led Team Canada with averages of 13.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game and earned recognition as Toyota Canada Player of the Week.

Simon said, “Tristan is an incredible athlete that is just scratching the surface of how good he can be.” He added: “Defensively he has the traits to be a lockdown defender and offensively he is quick, physical and can finish above the rim. He has played at a high level internationally, in prep school and being a part of a NCAA tournament team. His growth mindset makes him a candidate to flourish in our system.”

The Falcons encouraged fans to follow their men’s basketball team on social media platforms including Twitter (@BGSU_Athletics; @BGSUMBB), Instagram (‘bgfalcons’; ‘bgsumhoops’), Facebook (‘BGSU Athletics’), and YouTube (‘Falcon Athletics’).

The addition of Beckford brings international experience to Bowling Green’s roster as they prepare for upcoming seasons.
