Bowling Green State University’s men’s basketball team is set to face Kent State University on Tuesday, January 6, as part of their ongoing road trip. The game will start at 7 p.m. and can be streamed on ESPN+, with radio coverage by Todd Walker available on WFRO Eagle 99.

The Falcons currently hold an 11-4 overall record and are 2-1 in the Mid-American Conference (MAC). Their opponents, the Kent State Golden Flashes, come into the game with an 11-3 record and a 1-0 standing in the MAC. This matchup marks the 176th meeting between these two programs. Bowling Green leads the all-time series with an 89-86 record, though Kent State has won the last twelve encounters. The Falcons’ most recent victories against Kent State occurred during the 2019 season.

Both teams are among four in the MAC with at least eleven wins this season, alongside Miami (OH) and Buffalo. Javontae Campbell of Bowling Green is currently ranked second nationally for steals per game at an average of 3.4, while Delrecco Gillespie from Kent State ranks third nationally for rebounds per game with an average of 11.7.

A win for Bowling Green would give them a 3-1 start in conference play for the first time since the 2023-24 season and a perfect 3-0 MAC road record not seen since the 2020-21 campaign. It would also mark their best overall record through sixteen games since last season and snap a twelve-game losing streak against Kent State.

On the road this year, Bowling Green has performed strongly, holding a 5-1 away record and averaging nearly eighty-two points per game while shooting just under forty-six percent from the field.

Kent State began its season with an overtime loss but followed up with nine consecutive wins before entering a more mixed stretch leading up to this contest.

Javontae Campbell recently made program history by scoring forty-seven points in a single game against UMass—a career high that stands as one of Bowling Green’s top performances since the mid-sixties. He was named MAC Player of the Week for his efforts.

Mayar Wol also made his first start for Bowling Green this season against UMass, matching his season highs in several categories including points scored.

Campbell remains on pace to break both his own school record and potentially set a new MAC single-season steals mark if current trends continue.
