The Bowling Green State University men’s basketball team secured a significant 82-66 win over Kansas State on Monday night in Manhattan, Kansas. The Falcons led for the entire game and at one point held an 18-point advantage. This victory marks Bowling Green’s first win against a Power 4 opponent since defeating Virginia Tech in November 2005, and their first double-digit win over such an opponent since December 1996.
Sam Towns led all scorers with a career-high 27 points and eight rebounds. “Coming off his first double-double of the season in the last contest, Sam Towns put together another show for BGSU. Towns tallied a career-high 27 points, leading all scorers for the game. Towns is the fourth different Falcon with a 20-point game this season.” He also matched Troy Glover II for the team lead in rebounds; Glover recorded eight boards, including five offensive rebounds.
Javontae Campbell contributed 17 points and led the team with five assists, tying his season high. “Javontae Campbell tallied 17 points for the Falcons, tying for second on the team, while leading the team in assists with five, tying his season-high. Campbell has now led BGSU in assists three times this year through eight games.” Javon Ruffin also scored 17 points and made five three-pointers.
Bowling Green started strong with an early run and maintained control throughout both halves. The Falcons built a double-digit lead by halftime (49-35) and limited Kansas State’s PJ Haggerty—who entered as the nation’s leading scorer—to just 17 points. According to Bowling Green’s records, they are only the second team this season to hold Haggerty under 20 points.
As a team, Bowling Green hit a season-high of twelve three-pointers during the game and committed only eight turnovers—their third single-digit turnover performance this year.
With this result, Bowling Green improves to a 6-2 record—its best start since opening at 9-2 during the 2020-21 campaign—and will play five of its next six games at home.
The Falcons’ next matchup is scheduled against Utah Valley on Saturday (Dec. 6) at Stroh Center, followed by Aquinas on Sunday (Dec. 7).
