The Bowling Green State University men’s basketball team secured an 81-48 win over VMI at the Fort Myers Tip-Off on Wednesday, Nov. 26. The Falcons limited VMI to just 20 percent shooting from the field and only 10 made field goals, marks believed to be program records for Bowling Green.

Mayar Wol led all scorers with 21 points, marking his first game this season with at least 20 points. Sam Towns contributed a double-double, finishing with 12 points and 18 rebounds—10 of which were offensive boards—the highest single-game rebound total by a Falcon since the 2020-21 season.

Bowling Green started strong, with Troy Glover II scoring the team’s first six points. After early contributions from Sam Towns and others, the Falcons built a double-digit lead in the first half and carried a 45-20 advantage into halftime—their largest halftime margin so far this season.

The Falcons continued their dominance in the second half, with additional scoring from Javontae Campbell, Josiah Shackelford, and Javon Ruffin. Shackelford reached double figures for the sixth time in seven games this year.

As a team, Bowling Green collected 51 rebounds, tying their highest mark of the season. Coach Todd Simon improved his record at the Fort Myers Tip-Off to 4-1 all-time after previously coaching Southern Utah at the event.

“This is believed to be program records for field goal percentage defense and fewest field goals allowed,” according to available statistics provided by Bowling Green State University Athletics.

With this victory, Bowling Green finished the Fort Myers Tip-Off with a perfect 2-0 record and improved to 5-2 overall—their best start since the 2020-21 season. The win also marked their first-ever meeting against VMI and added them as the fifth new opponent defeated by BGSU this year.

The Falcons will continue their road trip by facing Kansas State on Monday, Dec. 1.
