Both teams are closely ranked in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) standings, with just one game separating them as part of a five-way tie between positions six and ten. Bowling Green and Ball State have faced each other 97 times, with Bowling Green leading the series 55-42. Although Ball State won their last encounter on January 11, Bowling Green has historically performed well at home against Ball State, holding a record of 33-14.
