Bowling Green State University has announced the signing of KJ Torbert, a highly ranked basketball recruit from East Lansing, Michigan. Head coach Todd Simon made the announcement on Friday as part of National Signing Day.

Torbert, a 6-foot-4 guard, is currently ranked as the No. 2 player in Michigan for the class of 2026 by 247Sports. He led his high school team to a state championship last year and was named MVP of the State Finals. In addition to this honor, he has received All-State, All-City, and All-Conference First Team selections throughout his high school career. Torbert is also considered one of the top contenders for this year’s Michigan’s Mr. Basketball Award.

During his time in high school, Torbert has been recognized three times with All-State honors as well as repeated All-City and All-Conference accolades. He will join Bowling Green as a second-generation collegiate basketball player; his father, Kelvin Torbert Sr., played at Michigan State from 2001 to 2005.

Coach Todd Simon commented on the new addition: “We are extremely excited to add KJ to the program. He is a winner and embodies what we want our team to be about. He’s proven at the high school level that he can impact games at the highest level as a state champion and State Finals MVP. KJ comes from a great family that has been instrumental in his journey. We cannot wait to get to work with KJ and start his legacy at BGSU.”
