The Bowling Green State University baseball team marked the opening of the newly renovated Steller Field with a 7-0 shutout victory over the Ohio Bobcats on March 20. The win came after the Falcons completed a 17-game road stretch to start their season, which featured one of the toughest schedules in the nation according to NCAA metrics.
The game was significant as it was not only the team’s first home appearance of the season but also celebrated upgrades to Steller Field. Sam Seidel’s grand slam in the second inning gave Bowling Green an early lead, while pitchers Ethan Stade and Carrson Sova combined for a three-hit shutout, totaling 12 strikeouts.
Seidel’s grand slam was notable as it was both his first home run at the renovated field and the first grand slam for Bowling Green since April 2025. Stade delivered seven scoreless innings with eight strikeouts and earned his first win with the Falcons. Andrew DiLodovico contributed three hits, including a triple, marking his first collegiate three-hit game.
The Falcons’ pitching staff has now recorded two shutouts this season, their highest total since 2021. Sova closed out the final two innings with four strikeouts and allowed just one hit.
Bowling Green and Ohio are set to continue their series on Saturday, March 21, with festivities planned before the game including a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Steller Field renovations and a ceremonial first pitch by Paul Hooker. Updates regarding schedule changes will be available on BGSUFalcons.com and social media channels.
The strong performance at home highlights Bowling Green’s resilience after a challenging start to their season on the road. The team looks ahead to building momentum as they continue their series against Ohio.
