The Bowling Green State University women’s basketball team is preparing for a Mid-American Conference (MAC) matchup against Western Michigan University on Wednesday, January 14, at University Arena in Kalamazoo. The Falcons, who hold a 9-6 overall record and are 2-2 in the MAC, recently secured a double-digit road win and continue their series of away games.

Head coach Fred Chmiel leads the Falcons into this contest, which will be streamed on ESPN+ with audio available via Falcon Media Sports. Live statistics can be accessed through BGSUFalcons.com.

This game marks the third consecutive road match where the opposing head coach has ties to Bowling Green. Western Michigan’s head coach, Kate Achter, is a Bowling Green Hall-of-Famer who played for the Falcons from 2004 to 2008. During her tenure as a player, Achter contributed to four MAC regular-season titles and remains BGSU’s all-time assists leader with 688.

Recent performances by senior Kendal Moxey have been notable. She led the team in both scoring and rebounding over the last two games, including achieving career-highs of 16 points and 15 rebounds against Central Michigan. In Saturday’s win at Northern Illinois, Moxey was perfect from the field with 15 points and eight rebounds.

Sophomore Johnea Donahue has also made significant contributions after returning from injury. She recorded double-doubles in recent games and currently averages four steals per game—leading the MAC and tying her for fourth nationally. Donahue ranks among conference leaders in multiple categories including total steals, scoring, rebounds, assists, free-throw percentage, and assist/turnover ratio.

Junior Paige Kohler was named to the Preseason All-MAC First Team by league coaches. Kohler leads Bowling Green in scoring this season with an average of 14.4 points per game and is second on the team in assists. Since joining BGSU, she has started every game—77 consecutively—and moved into 34th place on BGSU’s career scoring list.

The Falcons have used eight different starting lineups so far this season due to roster changes. Ten players have started at least one game each.

Bowling Green holds a strong historical position within the MAC. The program has won 15 regular-season titles—tied for most in conference history—and leads all MAC schools with eleven tournament championships. Entering Wednesday’s matchup against Western Michigan (5-9 overall; 2-2 MAC), Bowling Green leads their all-time series 44-37.

After facing Western Michigan, Bowling Green will return home for games against Miami on January 17 (Alumni Day) and Ohio on January 21 at Stroh Center.
