The Bowling Green State University women’s basketball team secured a 65-48 victory over Northern Illinois University on Saturday afternoon in DeKalb, Illinois. The win brings the Falcons’ record to 9-6 overall and 2-2 in Mid-American Conference play.

Senior Kendal Moxey led Bowling Green with a game-high 15 points, making all seven of her field goal attempts. She also grabbed eight rebounds, tying for the most in the game. “Senior Kendal Moxey has led the Falcons in both scoring and rebounding in each of the last two games. She posted BGSU career-best totals of 16 points and 15 rebounds vs. Central Michigan last Saturday (Jan. 3). After amassing totals of 21 points and 19 rebounds (1.6 ppg and 1.5 rpg) over BGSU’s first 13 games, Moxey has had 31 points and 23 boards (15.5 ppg, 11.5 rpg) in the last two contests.”

Sophomore Lauren Gerken contributed 11 points and six rebounds for the Falcons, while Kaia Woods, Paige Kohler, and Johnea Donahue each added ten points. Woods made both her three-point attempts.

Kohler and Donahue combined for ten assists and twelve steals; Donahue recorded eight steals—seven coming after halftime—and both players collected four rebounds apiece.

Bowling Green held Northern Illinois to just fifteen points during the second and third quarters combined by forcing thirteen turnovers during that stretch. Over the final thirty minutes of play, NIU managed only thirty-two points.

Northern Illinois led by six late in the first quarter before Bowling Green responded with a nine-point run late in the second quarter to take control of the game. The Falcons extended their lead from three to double digits by the end of the third period.

In the fourth quarter, after NIU narrowed Bowling Green’s lead to five points early on, Kohler hit a three-pointer that started a seven-point run for BG, helping them regain momentum. The Falcons eventually built their advantage to as many as twenty-one before finishing with a seventeen-point margin.

Bowling Green will next travel to Kalamazoo for a matchup against Western Michigan on Wednesday at University Arena at 7:00 p.m., followed by a home game against Miami on Saturday at Stroh Center for Alumni Day.
