The Bowling Green State University women’s basketball team will continue its six-game homestand, the longest in the program’s regular-season history, with a matchup against Defiance College on Sunday, December 7 at 1:00 p.m. The game will be held at the Stroh Center in Bowling Green, Ohio.
Sunday’s event is designated as Military Appreciation Day. Veterans and active military members can receive a giveaway through the BGSU Ticket Office.
The game against Defiance marks the first of a doubleheader at the Stroh Center; following the women’s game, the men’s basketball team will play Aquinas College at 4:00 p.m. Fans must vacate seating areas after the women’s game unless they have tickets for the men’s contest. Those attending both games are required to scan their men’s basketball ticket before re-entering.
Fans can watch Sunday’s contest via ESPN+ with commentary from Brad Woznicki and Samantha Momeyer or listen to Falcon Media Sports Network, where Adam Duffin and Daniel Ridenour will provide audio coverage. Links for streaming and live statistics are available on BGSUFalcons.com.
Bowling Green enters this weekend’s matchup after recording a historic win over Kentucky State on December 3. The Falcons defeated Kentucky State 103-32, achieving a 71-point margin—the largest victory in school history by a difference of 13 points compared to previous records. The team led Kentucky State 27-0 after one quarter, marking only the second time in program history that Bowling Green has held an opponent scoreless for an entire quarter.
Taya Ellis led all players with 14 points and nine rebounds during that game. Johnea Donahue contributed 13 points, five assists, and eight steals—all in just over 21 minutes of play—with all her steals occurring in the first half. Sofia Moschen scored a career-high 12 points off the bench, while Paige Kohler added 11 points.
The Falcons allowed only eight points in the first half against Kentucky State—a new school record for fewest points conceded before halftime. Their total of 45 free-throw attempts ties for third-most in program history.
Bowling Green started its season with six consecutive away games across several states—including Louisiana, South Carolina (where they faced nationally ranked South Carolina), Wisconsin, and Alaska—before beginning their current home stretch.
Junior Taya Ellis has blocked 11 shots over eight games this season and currently ranks second in blocks per game within the Mid-American Conference (MAC). She has moved into a tie for fifteenth place on Bowling Green’s career blocks list.
Defiance College comes into Sunday’s exhibition with an overall record of 3-7 (0-4 WHAC) after falling to Eastern Michigan on Friday night. Taylor Haynes and Kayla Houston lead Defiance individually with averages of 12.0 and 10.5 points per game respectively; both average just over five rebounds per contest.
Historically, Bowling Green leads Defiance six games to one in their series but have not met since January of 1982 when Bowling Green won by a score of 76-55.
After facing Defiance, Bowling Green will continue its homestand with games against Lourdes (December 14), Le Moyne (December 16), and Kent State (December 20). The Kent State matchup will open MAC conference play before Bowling Green travels to Eastern Michigan at month’s end.
