Bowling Green State University’s women’s basketball team set new records at the Stroh Center with a 118-35 victory over Defiance College on Sunday. The Falcons, now 5-4 for the season, broke their own arena record for points in a game and set both arena and school records for margin of victory. These records had previously been established just four days earlier.

All 13 players on the Bowling Green roster scored at least once and collected at least one rebound during the game. Junior Jaedyn Cook led with 18 points, surpassing her previous season high, shooting 6-for-8 from the field and making all six free throws. She also contributed two rebounds, two steals, and a block in under ten minutes of play.

Juniors Paige Kohler and Jasmine Fearne each added 16 points, with Fearne achieving a career best and making four of the team’s ten three-pointers. Junior Taya Ellis recorded a double-double with 14 points and a personal-best 13 rebounds.

Senior Emily Siesel reached a career-high nine points, while freshman Ky’Aira Miller and sophomore Johnea Donahue also scored nine each. Donahue contributed seven rebounds, four assists, and three blocks.

For Defiance College, Shaunie Little and Lorena Caparros each scored 11 points.

The Falcons took control early with a 33-10 lead after the first quarter and extended their advantage throughout the game. By halftime, Bowling Green led 62-21; after three quarters, it was 95-28. The final margin of victory was a school-record 83 points.

The previous school record for margin of victory was surpassed twice this week by Bowling Green: first against Kentucky State with a win by 71 points (103-32), then again in Sunday’s game against Defiance College.

Bowling Green’s total of 118 points is now third highest in program history. Only games against Valparaiso in January 1992 (127 points) and Kent in February 1991 (121 points) saw higher totals.

The Falcons achieved a second consecutive game with a run of 27 unanswered points. On Wednesday against Kentucky State, they opened with such a run; on Sunday, they repeated this feat between late in the first half and midway through the third quarter.

Statistically, Bowling Green shot just over fifty percent from the field (42-of-83), made ten three-pointers out of thirty-four attempts, and converted twenty-four out of twenty-nine free throws (82.8%). They outrebounded Defiance College by twenty-one boards (61 to 40). The team also blocked nine shots for the second straight game.

In other action at Stroh Center on Sunday, Bowling Green’s men’s basketball team won their matchup against Aquinas by an even larger scoreline (131-50).

Bowling Green will continue its six-game homestand next Sunday when they host Lourdes at Stroh Center at 2 p.m., followed by games against Le Moyne on December 16 and Kent State on December 20. The Kent State matchup will mark the start of Mid-American Conference play for the Falcons.
