Central Michigan University secured a 77-65 victory over Bowling Green State University in a Mid-American Conference women’s basketball game on Wednesday night at McGuirk Arena. The Chippewas improved their record to 18-11 overall and 12-6 in conference play, while the Falcons dropped to 16-13 overall and 8-9 in the MAC.

Madi Morson led Central Michigan with a game-high 29 points, one of four Chippewas players to score in double figures. For Bowling Green, junior Paige Kohler contributed 16 points, sophomore Lauren Gerken added 11, and junior Taya Ellis scored 10.

Despite shooting a higher field-goal percentage than Central Michigan—42 percent compared to the Chippewas’ 37 percent—Bowling Green struggled from three-point range, making only five of twenty attempts. Central Michigan converted eight of fourteen three-pointers and attempted nearly twice as many free throws as Bowling Green (29 versus 16).

Ellis led the Falcons with eight rebounds and shared the team lead in steals with freshman Ky’Aira Miller; both recorded three steals. The Falcons played without sophomore Johnea Donahue.

The first quarter saw Central Michigan build an early lead after Taylor Anderson’s opening three-pointer. Bowling Green responded late in the period with a run that cut the deficit to three points by quarter’s end.

In the second quarter, Bowling Green briefly took a two-point lead before Jayda Mosley hit a go-ahead three-pointer for Central Michigan. Mosley finished the night hitting four out of five shots from beyond the arc. The Chippewas closed out the half on a seven-point run to take a ten-point advantage into halftime.

Bowling Green again started strong after halftime but could not sustain momentum as Morson and Mosley extended Central Michigan’s lead through timely shooting and free throws. The Falcons were unable to close the gap below double digits during most of the fourth quarter.

The loss ended Bowling Green’s three-game winning streak.

The Falcons will conclude their regular season at home against Northern Illinois on Saturday, March 7 at Stroh Center. Senior Day festivities are scheduled prior to tipoff at 2:00 p.m. Following that game, Bowling Green will compete in the Mid-American Conference Tournament beginning Wednesday, March 11 at Rocket Arena in Cleveland. Their seed and opponent will be determined after Saturday’s games across the conference.
