On March 2, 2026, Cleveland police officers responded to a report of a suspected deceased individual at East 162nd Street and Midland Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found an unidentified person dead inside a suitcase. During the investigation, detectives from the Homicide Unit discovered a second deceased individual in another suitcase nearby. Both victims were taken to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office for further examination.

The following day, police confirmed that both victims are believed to be females, estimated to be about 8½ and 14 years old. The suitcases were found close together.

The Homicide Unit began an intensive investigation, canvassing the area, interviewing witnesses, and reviewing surveillance footage. Detectives moved quickly despite limited initial evidence.

“These were two young lives with their entire futures ahead of them,” said Chief Dorothy Todd. “Our detectives worked tirelessly and with great care to identify those responsible. Investigations of this nature require patience, precision, and discretion. Unlike what is often portrayed on television, every detail cannot be shared publicly. Certain information must remain confidential to protect the integrity of the investigation and ensure justice for these victims. That careful and methodical work allowed our detectives to develop the evidence needed to make quick identification of a person of interest, ultimately resulting in an arrest.”

Detectives used intelligence-led policing strategies and technology as part of their efforts. They developed probable cause to execute a search warrant at a residence in the 700 block of East 162nd Street. Within less than two days after the initial discovery, they detained a person of interest and recovered significant evidence related to the case. A child was found in good health inside the home; authorities placed the child in the custody of the Department of Children and Family Services.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office continues its work to officially identify both children.

After additional investigation and interviews, police arrested a 28-year-old woman who is expected to be charged later today. Her identity will be released once charges are filed. The investigation remains ongoing as it moves through legal proceedings.

The suspect has been identified as Aliyah Henderson (DOB: October 10, 1997), who faces two counts of aggravated murder.

The Cleveland Division of Police operates as a law enforcement agency headquartered in Cleveland and serves city residents by providing public safety services and sharing community updates through social media platforms and blog posts (official website).
