Cleveland police have arrested a suspect in connection with an aggravated robbery and shooting that took place on January 2, 2026. The incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. in the 7900 block of Madison Avenue, where the suspect allegedly approached a woman at gunpoint and demanded money. When the victim could not provide any, the suspect forcibly took her vehicle and fired a gun, hitting her in the face. A child was present during the event but was not physically harmed.
Following the incident, detectives from the Cleveland Division of Police Second District began an investigation and quickly recovered the stolen vehicle. Detectives identified a suspect and obtained an arrest warrant.
On January 3, Second District detectives, working with the Crime Gun Intelligence Center (CGIC), found the suspect at a residence on Cleveland’s east side. The individual, identified as Ronald Loftis, age 47, was arrested without incident and taken to Cuyahoga County Jail. He is being held pending charges of Attempted Murder and Aggravated Robbery.
“This was a senseless and violent crime carried out with complete disregard for human life,” said Chief Todd. “Because of the decisive and relentless work of our officers and detectives, this dangerous individual is now off our streets. Our thoughts are with the victim as she recovers from this traumatic event. We are grateful that she is in stable condition and that the child who was with her was not physically harmed.”
Chief Todd added, “These investigations are often complex, fast-moving, and require extensive coordination across our Division. The outstanding work of our Second District officers, detectives, N.I.C.E. Unit and our CGIC detectives demonstrates the Cleveland Division of Police’s dedication to holding violent offenders accountable and protecting our community.”
Police stated that additional charges may be filed as their investigation continues.
