Columbus Metropolitan Library announced on Apr. 20 that it will partner with the 501st Legion – Ohio Garrison to host a Star Wars-themed event at Main Library on May 2. The event, running from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., is set to feature costumed characters, props, droids, trivia contests, and Storytime sessions for fans of all ages.
The event aims to bring together Star Wars enthusiasts and community members for a day of free activities inspired by the popular film series. Attendees can expect immersive experiences including recreated sets such as a swoop bike, TIE fighter cockpit, droid depot, Jawa kitchen, and an educational display about blue milk organized by Tatooine Dairy Farms.
Tom Betti, library volunteer and member of the 501st Legion, said: “Now in its fourth year, May the Fourth at Columbus Metropolitan Library has grown into one of Columbus’s most beloved free community celebrations. Whether you’re a lifelong Star Wars fan or experiencing it for the first time, we want everyone in Ohio to feel that sense of wonder and have fun in a galaxy far, far away, no theme park ticket required.”
The schedule includes opportunities for guests to explore Star Wars locations recreated inside the Reading Room throughout the day. There will also be original script drafts from the original trilogy on display courtesy of the Museum of Science Fiction and Fantasy Arts Collection based in Warren. Additional activities include building lightsabers while supplies last at 9 a.m., Storytime for young children at 11 a.m., and trivia from 3-4 p.m.
The partnership with the international costuming group underscores both organizations’ commitment to engaging local communities through creative events. The library encourages attendees to bring cameras for photo opportunities with costumed characters.
