Elzinga wins individual title as BGSU women’s golf takes second at West Texas Classic

Bowling Green State University’s women’s golf team secured second place at the West Texas Classic, held in Abilene, Texas and hosted by Abilene Christian University. Macie Elzinga led the Falcons by winning the individual title, marking her first collegiate victory. She finished first among 88 competitors with a total score of 211 (+1).

The Falcons had four athletes finish within the top 30. Ava O’Sullivan tied for tenth with a score of 218 (+8), Sammie Dolce tied for sixteenth at 223 (+10), and Addison Kartusch tied for twenty-seventh at 224 (+14). Audrey McIntyre, competing individually, finished thirtieth with a score of 225 (+16). McKenzie Miller placed sixty-eighth.

On the team leaderboard, Bowling Green posted a combined score of 873 (+33), finishing just behind Abilene Christian, which took first place with an overall score of 869 (+29). Other teams rounding out the top five included Northern Colorado (880, +40), Texas El Paso (885, +45), and South Dakota State (886, +46).

BGSU Women’s Golf Coach Erin Fahey commented on the team’s performance: “I’m really proud of the team this week. They played some really solid yesterday and put us in a great position going into today. The wind was gusting all day, but they fought until the end. To finish runner-up in this field is something to be proud of. I want to congratulate Macie Elzinga on her first collegiate win. She played some great golf and showed poise, toughness, and guts to get it done. Overall, I’m really proud of the team.”

The Falcons will next compete at the Georgia State Invitational from March 30-31.
