A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the Ohio Secretary of State on February 5, 2025. The request, made by Buckeye Reporter, a media organization dedicated to comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, sought information about candidates running in the upcoming spring elections.

The FOIA request specifically asked for a list of all candidates running in the upcoming election under the Ohio Open Records Law, §149.43 et seq. The details requested included each candidate’s first, middle and last names; the office they are running for; their jurisdiction; and their party affiliation.

In addition to this, the Buckeye Reporter also requested contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.

As members of the media committed to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we at Buckeye Reporter believe access to such public records is crucial in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. We have thus applied for a fee waiver as a media professional while making this request.

This information will enable us to provide our readers with detailed insights into who is vying for office in the upcoming elections and facilitate informed decision-making among voters.
