The former director of a Toledo-area nonprofit has been indicted for allegedly misappropriating at least $150,000 from the organization and its donors, which included elderly residents of Ohio. This was announced by Attorney General Dave Yost.

A Lucas County grand jury has charged Thomas Ostrosky, aged 52, with several felonies, including engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, theft from a person in a protected class, solicitation fraud, and telecommunications fraud. Authorities apprehended Ostrosky in Dade City, Florida, where he currently resides. He will be extradited to Ohio.

The charges relate to Ostrosky’s management of the Lazarus Experience, a nonprofit organization he founded in 2017. The organization, now defunct, was described as a Christian ministry that provided re-entry services for formerly incarcerated men in northwest Ohio.

The investigation was conducted by Yost’s Charitable Law Section, which is also prosecuting the case in cooperation with the Lucas County Prosecutor’s Office.

It is important to note that indictments serve as criminal allegations, and defendants maintain their presumption of innocence until proven guilty in a court of law.
