The Grove City Division of Police announced on Apr. 23 that it has received reports about a scam in which an individual is impersonating Police Lt. Gallo and urging residents to provide computer access to someone claiming to be a Federal Trade Commission agent.
The department said the imposter attempts to appear legitimate by directing victims to the city’s official website, GroveCityOhio.Gov, for verification and offering fake images of FTC credentials. Authorities emphasized that this is not a legitimate request and stated that neither local police nor federal agencies would ask for remote access to personal computers in this way.
Residents are advised not to allow unknown callers access to their computers, never share personal or financial information over the phone, verify suspicious calls by contacting the police directly, and remain cautious if they receive urgent or high-pressure requests. The division encourages anyone who receives similar calls to report them using its non-emergency line at (614) 277-1710.
