A woman from Hocking County, Ohio, has been charged with murder following the death of her 10-month-old daughter, according to an announcement by Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost. Daisha Somers, 27, formerly of Logan, was arrested after a grand jury in Hocking County indicted her on ten felony counts. The arrest took place near Point Pleasant, West Virginia, with assistance from the Mason County Sheriff’s Office and West Virginia State Police. Somers is currently being held at the Western Regional Jail in Barboursville.
The charges against Somers include two counts of murder, one count of involuntary manslaughter, one count of felonious assault, one count of corrupting another with drugs, four counts of endangering children, and one count of aggravated possession of drugs.
Somers’ daughter Ka’myla was hospitalized on November 20, 2022 after suffering severe head trauma and died three days later.
The indictment follows an investigation by the Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Special Victims Unit. The Hocking County Sheriff’s Office initially investigated the case before requesting support from BCI. The Special Prosecutions Section within the Attorney General’s Office is prosecuting the case.
“Indictments are criminal allegations. Defendants are presumed innocent unless proved guilty in a court of law,” said the statement from Attorney General Yost.
The Ohio Attorney General’s Office handles legal matters for the state and provides services such as prosecuting crimes and representing government entities across Ohio through its main office in Columbus and regional offices statewide.
