A Huron County man has pleaded guilty to charges related to the death and disappearance of Amanda Dean, a mother of four who went missing in 2017. Frederick Reer, 42, admitted to involuntary manslaughter, two counts of tampering with evidence, and gross abuse of a corpse during proceedings at the Huron County Common Pleas Court.
Reer was indicted earlier this year following an investigation conducted by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) and the Special Prosecutions Section from the Ohio Attorney General’s Office. The case was prosecuted with support from Huron County Prosecutor James J. Sitterly after BCI led the inquiry at the request of the Huron County Sheriff’s Office.
Dean was last seen on July 11, 2017, in Townsend Township near Norwalk. According to investigators, Reer killed Dean inside their shared residence before cleaning up the scene and disposing of evidence. Her body has not been recovered.
Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost commented on the outcome: “Proving a homicide without a body is the ultimate test of investigative and legal skill,” Yost said. “I’m proud of our team for taking on such a complex case and securing justice for Amanda and her loved ones.”
Sentencing for Reer is set for January 5.
