Senator Jon Husted (R-Ohio) announced that Ohio will receive $6.87 million as part of a funding package recently approved by the Senate. The legislation aims to support research, innovation, environmental protection, and national security in Ohio while also working to prevent another government shutdown.

The bill received bipartisan backing and covers three of the twelve appropriations subcommittee bills required for full government funding. All three passed both the Senate Appropriations Committee and the Senate floor with broad support.

“This bill includes significant investments in Ohio that advance research and innovation, protect our environment and secure America from our adversaries. Ohioans can always count on me to deliver real results and ensure our state has the resources it needs to thrive,” said Husted.

He added, “This bill is also a meaningful step forward—fully funding essential services for Americans and providing stability for families, workers and communities across the country. The recent government shutdown caused unnecessary pain for the American people, and I’m encouraged that we are on a path to avoiding another shutdown through today’s vote.”

Specific allocations secured for Ohio through congressionally directed spending requests include:

– $500,000 for the Ohio Aerospace Institute’s Quantum and Space Technologies Education, Training and Research Initiative
– $1.75 million for Case Western Reserve University’s Advanced Product Manufacturing Initiative
– $1.5 million for the University of Dayton’s Nanoscience Device Research and Workforce Development Lab
– $1.5 million for Transportation Research Center’s Impact Lab Equipment
– $1.25 million for Ohio University’s Research Equipment for U.S. Energy Leadership and Supply Chain Strength
– $1.145 million for Sinclair Community College’s Center for Advanced Manufacturing
– $620,000 for Cold Creek and Lake Erie Western Basin Water Quality Improvement Project

Beyond these targeted items, broader program funding includes full appropriations through September 2026 for agencies such as the Departments of Commerce, Justice, NASA (with NASA Glenn in Cleveland leading several initiatives), Department of the Interior, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Army Corps of Engineers operations related to water resources projects in Ohio, Office of Nuclear Energy activities including advanced nuclear reactors work at Piketon Gaseous Diffusion Plant sites, cleanups at Luckey Site and Harshaw Chemical Company locations in Ohio under FUSRAP (Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program), as well as continued efforts against invasive carp threatening Great Lakes ecosystems.

The package further directs resources toward deep-sea mineral mapping in response to global supply chain concerns linked to China.

Environmental programs funded include grants supporting rural water technical assistance under Husted’s Water Resources Technical Assistance Act of 2025; major investments into Great Lakes restoration; Clean Water State Revolving Fund; Drinking Water State Revolving Fund; plus AI-driven tools aimed at risk assessment relating to coastal storms or flooding events affecting Lake Erie.

The Appalachian Regional Commission receives additional support aimed at economic development opportunities within Appalachian states including parts of Ohio.
