Jon Husted, U.S. Senator from Ohio, has announced his support for the Pay Our Military Act, a bill that would ensure military personnel continue to receive pay during a government shutdown. Husted emphasized the importance of supporting the 10,792 active-duty military members from Ohio.

“There are 10,792 active-duty military members who call Ohio home, and we owe it to them to ensure they receive their pay, regardless of what is happening in Washington. It’s wrong for the brave men and women who sacrifice so much in service to our great nation to go without pay, and I am disappointed Senate Democrats are choosing partisan politics over the American people. I’m backing the Pay Our Military Act to guarantee our servicemembers are paid while we work to get the government functioning again,” Husted said.

The proposed legislation would provide funding for all active-duty and reserve personnel in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Space Force, and Coast Guard during a shutdown. It also includes reservists who are drilling at that time, as well as civilian employees and contractors at the Departments of Defense and Homeland Security who support the Armed Forces.

Government funding expired on October 1, 2025, leading to a shutdown. While military personnel are required to continue their duties during this period, there is a risk they may not receive their paychecks on time. On October 11, President Trump announced that the Pentagon would use existing defense funds to cover servicemembers’ October 15 paycheck.

In addition to supporting the Pay Our Military Act, Husted has written to the Senate Financial Clerk requesting that his own salary be withheld until the shutdown concludes. He is also backing the No Budget, No Pay Act, which would prevent lawmakers from receiving their salaries until both chambers of Congress pass funding for the government.
