Bowling Green senior guard Javontae Campbell has been named the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Player of the Week, according to an announcement from the conference on Monday. This marks Campbell’s fifth career weekly honor at Bowling Green and his third this season, following previous recognitions on November 10 and December 8. He also received the award twice last season.
Campbell played a key role in Bowling Green’s overtime win against UMass, remaining on the court for all 45 minutes and scoring 47 points. This performance is notable as it is the highest point total by a MAC player since the 2017-18 season, sets a new record for most points scored by a Falcon on the road, is the most overall by a Falcon since 1964, and ties for fifth-most in program history. During the game, Campbell scored 16 consecutive points for Bowling Green across halftime. He made 20 of his 27 free throw attempts, tying the school record for attempts in a single game; his total made was two short of another program record. Three of those free throws tied the game and sent it into overtime. In addition to his scoring, Campbell led Bowling Green with eight assists and contributed six rebounds.
In another recent game against Miami (OH), Campbell added 16 points along with four assists, four rebounds, three steals, and one block.
The Falcons are set to continue their road trip on Tuesday with a matchup against Kent State at 7 p.m., followed by a home game against Akron on January 9 at Stroh Center.
