Bowling Green State University basketball player Javontae Campbell has been named the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week for the second time this season, according to an announcement from the conference on Wednesday. This recognition marks the fourth time a Bowling Green student-athlete has received the honor during this academic year.
Campbell is now one of four players in the MAC to earn the award twice in a single season. According to conference rules, student-athletes can only receive this distinction two times per season, making Campbell ineligible for further consideration this year.
During the week that led to his latest award, Campbell played a key role in Bowling Green’s win over Kansas State and contributed significantly across three games. He led his team in assists each game, recording at least five assists per contest and achieving a season-high nine assists against Aquinas College. Against Utah Valley, he scored 24 points—his fourth game with 20 or more points this season—and also added five rebounds, five assists, three steals, and a block. In the victory over Kansas State, Campbell finished with 17 points, six rebounds, and five assists while shooting 54.5 percent from the field. In his final appearance of the week versus Aquinas, he came close to achieving a quadruple-double by posting seven points, nine assists, seven rebounds, six steals, and two blocks in just 24 minutes of play.
Earlier this fall, other Bowling Green athletes were also recognized as MAC Scholar-Athletes: Lauryn Hovey from volleyball on September 11 and Emma Stransky from women’s soccer on September 18.
The Falcons will take a short break for exams before returning to action at home against Chicago State on Tuesday, December 16 at Stroh Center.
