Senior guard Javontae Campbell from Bowling Green State University has been named to the Preseason First Team All-Mid-American Conference (MAC) for the 2025-26 men’s basketball season. The announcement came as part of the MAC’s release of its preseason coaches poll on Tuesday.

Campbell’s selection follows a strong 2024-25 season in which he earned MAC All-Defensive and All-MAC Third Team honors. Last season, he set a program record with 90 steals, ranking fourth nationally and fifth all-time in conference history. He was one of four Falcons to play in all 32 games, starting 31 times and averaging over 30 minutes per game. Campbell also recorded the first triple-double by a Bowling Green player since the 2006-07 season, posting 11 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists against Aquinas on December 23. Only 22 players nationwide achieved a triple-double last year. According to the team, “Campbell is the first Preseason All-MAC First Team selection for BGSU since Daeqwon Plowden in 2021-22.”

In the team rankings, Bowling Green was picked seventh out of thirteen teams in this year’s preseason poll following UMass’s addition to the conference. The Falcons finished last season with a record of 14 wins and 18 losses overall and an eight-win, ten-loss mark in conference play, earning a spot in the MAC Tournament.

The Falcons’ roster features ten newcomers alongside seven returning players for a total squad size of seventeen. Their schedule begins with two exhibition games on the road—against Michigan State on October 23 and Dayton on October 27—before opening regular-season play at home versus Texas State on November 3 at Stroh Center.

The top five teams predicted by coaches are Akron (picked first with eleven first-place votes), Miami (second), Kent State (third), Ohio (fourth), and UMass (fifth). Akron is also favored to win the tournament championship.

The full list of Preseason All-MAC Teams includes Tavari Johnson (Akron), Delrecco Gillespie (Kent State), Peter Suder (Miami), Jackson Paveletzke (Ohio) on First Team alongside Campbell; Second Team selections include Evan Mahaffey and Shamah Scott from Akron among others.
