Bowling Green senior guard Javontae Campbell has been named to the early season watch list for the 2025-26 Lou Henson Award, according to an announcement from CollegeInsider.com. The award is given each year to the top mid-major player in Division I college basketball.

Campbell becomes the third Bowling Green player to appear on this watch list, following Marcus Hill in 2024 and Justin Turner in both 2019 and 2021. The winner of the Lou Henson Award will be selected by a committee of ten members, which includes current and former head coaches as well as two senior staff members from CollegeInsider.com. The award recipient will be announced in Indianapolis during the men’s Division I Basketball Championship.

This season, Campbell is one of five players from the Mid-American Conference (MAC) included on the list. Other MAC players recognized are Tavari Johnson from Akron, Daniel Freitag from Buffalo, Delrecco Gillespie from Kent State, and Evan Ipsaro from Miami (OH).

Campbell has stood out defensively so far this year. He leads the nation with an average of 3.6 steals per game and is on track to surpass the MAC single-season record for steals. Offensively, he leads Bowling Green in assists at 3.7 per game and also averages a team-high 16.0 points per game, ranking eighth among all conference players.

The Falcons will start their conference schedule this weekend when they play against Ohio Bobcats on Saturday, December 20 at 4 p.m.

“Campbell is the third Falcon to be named to the watch list, joining Marcus Hill (2024) and Justin Turner (2019, 2021).”
