Senator Jon Husted (R-Ohio) has marked his first year in office by outlining key legislative achievements and constituent services since joining the U.S. Senate. In a statement, Husted said, “Today, I mark my first full year serving as your U.S. Senator, and I have just one message: thank you. I came to the Senate committed to fighting for Ohio’s working families, and in just one year, we’ve already delivered real results. We passed tax cuts to help Ohioans keep more of what they earn, secured meaningful investments for communities across our state, advanced and passed three of my bills into law and introduced legislation to help more Americans achieve financial independence. It’s been a productive first year, and I look ahead knowing the best is yet to come.”
Husted highlighted regular communication with constituents over the past year through eight telephone town halls that reached over 1 million residents from all 88 counties in Ohio. He also held more than 400 face-to-face meetings with constituents and sent over 400,000 pieces of mail responding to questions or concerns.
Since taking office, Husted reported returning more than $4.5 million to Ohioans via constituent casework aimed at resolving issues with federal agencies.
A significant legislative achievement was Husted’s support for the Working Families Tax Cuts Act, enacted in July 2025. The law lowers taxes for working families in Ohio by preventing tax increases that would have cost an average family of four earning $80,000 an additional $1,700 in federal taxes. For the average household in Ohio, this would have meant an extra $2,140 owed if not for the law’s passage.
The act also maintains a 20% small business deduction—protecting deductions for approximately 842,000 small businesses across the state—and raises the Child Tax Credit to $2,200. Additional provisions include making up to $5,000 of the Adoption Credit partially refundable and eliminating taxes on tips and overtime pay.
Husted had three bills signed into law during his first year:
– The bipartisan SMART OTC Act modernizes FDA processes to allow more medications to become available over-the-counter.
– A resolution led by Husted reversed a previous administration’s energy regulation regarding appliance efficiency standards.
– The Great Lakes Fishery Research Reauthorization Act renews funding for scientific research supporting conservation efforts on Ohio’s lakes.
In terms of federal funding secured for Ohio-specific projects:
– The November government funding package included $30 million for Wright-Patterson Air Force Base’s Human Performance Laboratory in Dayton; $1 million for a rural health facility in Coshocton; and nearly $1 million for lab modernization at Holzer Health System in Gallipolis.
– Through the National Defense Authorization Act and other recent funding measures, he helped secure millions more for military construction and infrastructure statewide.
Husted also introduced legislation intended to address poverty traps known as benefits cliffs. The Upward Mobility Act proposes reforms allowing states greater flexibility by combining multiple anti-poverty programs’ funding streams into pilot projects designed to ease transitions out of poverty while reducing bureaucracy.
On healthcare access in rural areas, Husted announced that Ohio will receive over $202 million from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services under the Rural Health Transformation Fund created by recent tax cut legislation—a program expected to provide over $1 billion across five years.
“We passed tax cuts to help Ohioans keep more of what they earn, secured meaningful investments for communities across our state, advanced and passed three of my bills into law and introduced legislation to help more Americans achieve financial independence.”
