Senator Jon Husted (R-Ohio) marked his first year in the U.S. Senate by reflecting on his accomplishments and outlining future priorities for Ohioans. In an op-ed published across Ohio media outlets, Husted described the transition following former Senator JD Vance’s move to the vice presidency and highlighted efforts made during his inaugural year.

“Today marks one year since I took the Oath of Office to serve as one of Ohio’s U.S. Senators after JD Vance left the Senate to become the Vice President of the United States,” Husted wrote.

Husted expressed gratitude toward constituents, noting their continued trust throughout his career, including his previous role as lieutenant governor. “As I reflect on that milestone, I write to Ohioans today with one message: Thank you. Ohioans have consistently trusted me to serve and represent them, most recently as Lt. Governor, and it is an honor now to represent you, your family, and our shared Ohio values in Washington.”

He emphasized a focus on constituent services over the past year. “I have prioritized quality customer service in order to assist Ohioans struggling to navigate federal agencies,” he stated. According to Husted, more than $4.5 million was returned to residents through casework assistance in 2025. He also reported conducting over 400 meetings with constituents, sending more than 400,000 letters, and hosting eight telephone town halls that included participants from all 88 counties.

Addressing economic policy ahead of tax season, Husted pointed out relief measures from legislation passed last July: “With tax season on the horizon, Ohio families will soon see the real-life financial relief from the Working Families Tax Cuts Act, which I helped pass in July.” The act provides income tax cuts and child tax credits while eliminating taxes on tips or overtime pay; Husted said this would result in an average increase of $7,000 for each family.

“In my first year, three of my bills have been signed into law to make Ohioans’ lives easier and more affordable,” he added.

Discussing legislative goals going forward, Husted referenced efforts aimed at reducing obstacles for state residents: “But one of the primary reasons I accepted the appointment to the U.S. Senate was so I could work to remove barriers that make it harder for Ohioans and Americans to reach their goals and live their own version of the American Dream.”

He introduced what he called his flagship proposal: “That’s why I introduced my flagship bill, the Upward Mobility Act.”

Husted concluded by reaffirming ongoing commitments: “I am committed to building on these successes in the years to come as I work to take our commonsense, Ohio values to our nation’s capital. Ohio and America are on the rise, and I truly believe the best is yet to come.”
