Bowling Green State University’s baseball team opened their conference play against Kent State on Friday in Kent, Ohio. The Falcons took an early lead with a solo home run by Vinny Salvione in the fourth inning and strong pitching from Jacob Turner, who delivered five scoreless innings and retired 12 consecutive batters.

Kent State responded in the sixth inning with a three-run home run to take the lead. Another three-run homer in the seventh and two additional runs in the eighth gave Kent State an 8-1 victory over Bowling Green.

Jacob Turner finished his outing with 6.1 innings pitched, allowing six hits and four earned runs while striking out five batters. This marked his second game of the season with at least five strikeouts. Pauly Mancino extended his on-base streak to ten games and hitting streak to six games after recording a single in the eighth inning. Brady Birchmeier continued his consistent performance, reaching base twice after being hit by pitches and extending his hitting streak to five games. Anthony Mitta started off the ninth inning with a double, moving his on-base streak to eight games.

Vinny Salvione’s home run was his second of the season, making him one of three Falcons—alongside Sam Seidel and Zack Horky—to have multiple home runs this year. These three players account for six of Bowling Green’s eight total home runs so far this season.

The series between Bowling Green and Kent State will continue Saturday at 3 p.m., followed by another game Sunday at 1 p.m. Updates regarding any schedule changes will be available on BGSUFalcons.com as well as through their social media channels.
