Jonnell L. Ammons, also known as Nell, has been sentenced to 125 months in prison for his involvement in a drug trafficking conspiracy that distributed opioids and other drugs across Summit County and nearby areas. U.S. District Judge Donald C. Nugent handed down the sentence after Ammons was convicted by a federal jury in September 2025.
Ammons, 36, of Akron, Ohio, was found guilty of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl, as well as use of a communication facility to facilitate a felony drug offense. In addition to his prison term, he will serve three years of supervised release following his incarceration.
Court documents show that from May 2023 to January 2024, Ammons participated in an Akron-based drug trafficking organization involved in distributing methamphetamine, fentanyl, and cocaine. He was one of seven co-conspirators who used both residential and commercial properties in Akron to store illegal drugs before selling them throughout Northeast Ohio. Firearms were used by members of the group to secure their drugs prior to sale.
During the investigation led by the DEA Cleveland Field Office, agents seized quantities of methamphetamine, fentanyl, cocaine, three loaded firearms, over $8,500 in cash, a Rolex watch, and a Chevrolet Corvette.
Other defendants convicted in connection with this case are currently serving sentences ranging from two-and-a-half years up to thirty-five years in federal prison. All resided in Akron.
Assistant United States Attorneys Peter E. Daly and Joseph P. Dangelo prosecuted the case for the Northern District of Ohio.
