Lt. Gov. Jon Husted said that the High School Tech Internship Program has engaged over 1,600 students. “Businesses who participate know it’s more than just extra hands – it’s helping students earn skills and strengthening our communities,” he said in a January 6 post on X.

The High School Tech Internship Program offers Ohio business owners up to $5,000 in reimbursement per intern for hosting high school students in technology-related roles. According to the Governor’s Office of Workforce Transformation, the program provides students with valuable work experience while businesses gain access to needed tech talent. Interns will work in entry-level positions focusing on software development, IT infrastructure (including data and cloud), cybersecurity, advanced mobility, broadband, and 5G.
Husted’s January 6 post on X included a testimonial from Kelly Cramer of IC3D Printers. “This program was highly effective in reducing the financial and administrative load of a small business. I would recommend HSTI to any other Ohio organization looking for resources to accommodate their team while advocating for STEM education,” Cramer said.
The post also included a link to the website focused on the High School Tech Internship program through the Ohio Governor’s Office of Workforce Transformation. It includes instructions on how businesses can apply for interns through the program and how students can participate in internships. There are intermediaries in five regions throughout Ohio: Strategic Ohio Council for Higher Education (SOCHE) in northwest and west Ohio; Youth Opportunities Unlimited in Northeast Ohio; Educational Service Center of Central Ohio; INTERalliance of Greater Cincinnati in Southwest Ohio; and Building Bridges to Careers in Southeast Ohio.
Jon Husted was adopted and raised in Northwest Ohio’s Williams County. He earned multiple degrees from the University of Dayton and previously served as vice president at the Dayton-Area Chamber of Commerce before joining public service, according to his official biography. Husted has served as Ohio Secretary of State and House Speaker. First elected Lt. Governor in 2018, he was reelected in 2022. Husted and his wife Tina have three children.
