A Mahoning County man has been taken into custody in connection with a rape and kidnapping that occurred 25 years ago in Canfield, according to Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost.

Jack Sheetz, 57, who previously lived in Canfield, was arrested Thursday in Akron by the U.S. Marshals Service. His arrest follows the issuance of a sealed indictment this week by a Mahoning County grand jury.

The incident being investigated took place in November 2000. The Canfield Police Department conducted the investigation, while the Special Prosecutions Section of the Attorney General’s Office is handling prosecution of the case.

Attorney General Yost emphasized that “Indictments are criminal allegations. Defendants are presumed innocent unless proved guilty in a court of law.”
