Marquette University secured a 71-55 victory over the Bowling Green State University (BGSU) women’s basketball team on Friday night at the Al McGuire Center in Milwaukee. The game was marked by two significant second-half runs from Marquette, which shifted momentum decisively in their favor.

The Falcons trailed by just three points late in the third quarter after Johnea Donahue scored to bring the score to 42-39. However, Marquette responded with a 9-0 run to close out the period. Early in the fourth quarter, following a three-pointer from Paige Kohler for BGSU, Marquette launched another nine-point streak that extended their lead to 60-42 with under seven minutes left.

Lee Volker led Marquette with 23 points, and Halle Vice contributed 18 points while shooting eight of ten from the field. As a team, Marquette finished with a shooting percentage of 57 percent.

For Bowling Green, Donahue led scoring with 16 points. Kohler and Kaia Woods each added seven points, while Joniyah Bland-Fitzpatrick and Emily Siesel chipped in six apiece. Despite being narrowly out-rebounded (33-32), BGSU held an advantage in bench scoring at 27-6.

The game began with Marquette taking an early lead before BGSU closed the gap through plays by Donahue and Woods. In the second quarter, quick scoring bursts helped BGSU take a brief lead after baskets from Siesel and Woods. The teams traded leads until halftime when Marquette edged ahead, 29-27.

In the third quarter, Donahue kept BGSU within reach before Marquette’s late surge put them up by double digits heading into the final period. Another strong run by Marquette early in the fourth quarter effectively sealed their win.

Looking ahead, Bowling Green will travel to Alaska for two games as part of the Great Alaska Shootout next weekend. They are scheduled to play UC Irvine on Friday night (Nov. 21) at the Alaska Airlines Center and will face either St. Thomas or Alaska-Anchorage on Saturday (Nov. 22). Their regular-season home opener is set for Sunday, Nov. 30 against Purdue Fort Wayne at Stroh Center.
