A Michigan man pleaded guilty on April 2 to charges of assaulting a federal officer and possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio.
Damarko Amir Kimble, age 29, from Detroit, entered his plea in federal court. The charges stem from an incident on October 7, 2024, when federal agents encountered Kimble at a service plaza parking lot along the I-80/90 turnpike in Sandusky County. Agents noticed that Kimble’s rental vehicle had expired registration tags. A K-9 officer alerted agents to possible illegal substances inside the car.
After conducting a probable cause search of the vehicle, agents found a backpack containing a plastic bag with what was later confirmed as 577.7 grams of pure methamphetamine. As agents attempted to arrest Kimble, he rushed one of them and knocked him down before trying to flee but was quickly apprehended.
Kimble is scheduled for sentencing on July 14. The final sentence will be determined by a federal district court judge after considering U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
The U.S. Border Patrol Sandusky Bay Station conducted the investigation that led to Kimble’s indictment. Assistant United States Attorney Dexter L. Phillips is leading the prosecution.
