The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is organizing a public meeting to discuss upcoming safety improvement projects in Van Wert County. The meeting will take place on Monday, July 21, 2025, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Vantage Career Center in Van Wert.
The session will begin with a brief presentation followed by an open house where project teams and exhibits will be available for attendees. All materials from the meeting will be accessible on the project websites afterward.
Three projects are under discussion:
1. U.S. 30/John Brown Road intersection improvement aims to convert the intersection into a restricted crossing U-turn (RCUT). Construction is set to begin in 2026.
2. U.S. 30/U.S. 224 interchange improvement involves creating a new interchange and adding a connection with Liberty Union Road, with construction estimated to start in 2030.
3. U.S. 127 corridor improvement focuses on enhancing the corridor between U.S. 30 and Bonnewitz Avenue, also expected to commence in 2030.
These projects stem from ODOT’s studies initiated in 2019, which assessed potential benefits of converting U.S. 30 into a limited-access corridor for improved safety and connectivity.
Right-of-way acquisition may be necessary for these projects, and affected property owners will be contacted directly by real estate representatives if needed.
Environmental studies are ongoing to assess impacts on wetlands, utilities, and adjacent properties, including potential tree removal between October and March to protect endangered bat species.
Public feedback is encouraged until August 21, 2025, through various channels including project websites and direct contact with project managers Logan Davis and Morgan Gerdeman.
