The Ohio Department of Agriculture announced on April 9 that it has issued a final Permit to Operate renewal for S Curve Swine LLC. The department said that the permit may be appealed, and instructions were provided for submitting a notice of appeal and filing fee to the Environmental Review Appeals Commission by 5:00 p.m. on May 11.

According to the announcement, questions regarding the appeal process can be directed to the commission, and a copy of any appeal must be served on the director of agriculture within three days after filing with the commission.

The Ohio Department of Agriculture oversees more than 77,000 farms and 129,000 agricultural producers across Ohio while overseeing over 34 million acres of farmland, according to the official website. The department contributes $7.8 billion in cash receipts from production agriculture and adds $132.5 billion to the state economy while supporting over 593,000 jobs, according to the official website.

The department works statewide with inspectors traveling across Ohio to ensure compliance, as reported by the official website. It also safeguards residents by overseeing food supply safety and animal well-being while fostering economic prospects for farmers, food processors, and agribusinesses according to the official website.

In addition to regulatory responsibilities such as permit renewals, the department bolsters rural economies and public health by providing drought resources and ensuring food safety across Ohio. It recently recognized ten Soil and Water Conservation Districts for outstanding service during the 2024 drought according to information from the official website.
