A Youngstown man has been sentenced to 12.5 years in federal prison after being found guilty of illegally possessing a firearm and ammunition. Jermaine C. Bunn, 49, received the sentence from U.S. District Judge John R. Adams following his conviction by a federal jury in May.
Bunn’s prior criminal record includes convictions for assault in 1997 and possession of cocaine in both 2010 and 2021. As a result of these convictions, he was prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition.
According to court records and evidence presented during the trial, police responded to a call on October 25, 2024, about an unresponsive driver in Youngstown. Officers discovered Bunn asleep at the wheel with the vehicle running. A loaded Springfield Armory Model XDE-9, 9 mm semi-automatic pistol was located near the door handle, and an alcoholic beverage was observed in the cup holder.
The investigation was led by the FBI Youngstown Field Office, Mahoning Valley Violent Crime Task Force, and Youngstown Police Department.
Assistant United States Attorneys Yasmine Makridis and Joseph P. Dangelo prosecuted the case for the Northern District of Ohio.
“Bunn was also ordered to serve three years of supervised release after imprisonment,” according to court documents.
