An Edon, Ohio man has been sentenced to more than six years in federal prison for firearms violations after using a social media platform to trade guns, despite being prohibited from possessing them due to a prior felony conviction.
Dannie Wireman, 44, received a 77-month sentence from U.S. District Judge James R. Knepp on July 30, 2025. He pleaded guilty in March to charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm and receipt or possession of an unregistered firearm. After his release from prison, Wireman will serve three years of supervised release.
Wireman’s previous conviction stems from burglary charges in Indiana in 2009. As a result, he was barred from owning or trading firearms. Investigators found that Wireman used Facebook to conduct gun transactions with other users interested in bartering items such as hunting dogs, snowmobiles, and racecars for firearms. He posted photographs displaying his collection of guns to attract potential traders.
On March 6, 2024, authorities executed a search warrant at Wireman’s home and seized 22 long guns—including a sawed-off shotgun—and various ammunition.
The investigation involved several agencies: the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) Toledo Field Office, the Williams County Sheriff’s Office, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Dexter L. Phillips for the Northern District of Ohio.
