An Akron man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for drug trafficking and firearms violations. Alonzo M. Strickland, 52, received the sentence from U.S. District Judge John R. Adams after pleading guilty in April to several charges related to drugs and illegal firearm possession.
Strickland admitted to one count of possession with intent to distribute cocaine, one count of maintaining a drug premise, one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm—with a previous conviction for drug trafficking in 2006—and one count of possessing firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking offenses. In addition to his prison term, he will serve five years of supervised release following his incarceration. The sentence was imposed on July 31, 2025.
Court documents show that on January 29, 2025, federal agents executed a search warrant at Strickland’s residence in Akron. During the search, agents recovered digital scales and multiple bags containing more than two pounds (922.99 grams) of cocaine. Eight loaded firearms were also found throughout the home along with ammunition. The recovered firearms included rifles such as a Savage Axis .223 caliber rifle and an Anderson Manufacturing AM-15 .556 caliber rifle, as well as pistols including a Kimber 1911 .45 caliber pistol and others.
The FBI Akron Field Office led the investigation into this case.
“This case was investigated by the FBI Akron Field Office,” according to court records.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Toni Beth Schnellinger Feisthamel prosecuted the case for the Northern District of Ohio.
